Rural Community Alliance is proud to sponsor the Step Up for Public Education walk that will take place all across Arkansas on Saturday, October 18. Each participating community is hosting its own walk to highlight the accomplishments of its public school and to advocate for things such as affordable broadband access at our schools, better pay for our teachers, repeal of Act 60 which has closed so many schools, greater access to quality Pre-K, etc. Please join us by forming a team in your community. Registration cost is $20 for adults, $15 for youth and will cover a Step Up t-shirt and lifetime membership to Rural Community Alliance. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for a team packet. Follow the teams that are signing up and get breaking news on Step Up at https://www.facebook.com/arkansasruralschools
Equal Voice America’s Family Story publishes Arkansas Post Office story
Equal Voice America’s Family Story journalist Kathy Mulady of Seattle visited Arkansas recently along with independent photographer Jared Soares of Virginia. The two documented the struggle rural community members are facing with the U.S. Post Office’s proposal to close 179 post offices in Arkansas. See the photos and read the story here http://www.equalvoiceforfamilies.org/?p=2110. Thanks to the Marguerite Casey Foundation and Equal Voice for America’s Families for giving Arkansans a “voice” about this important issue. And thank you to RCA community members who graciously shared their stories.
